Advisory Internship

 

Salary: Minimum wage

 

6 month internship starting Monday 17 June 2013

 

New Schools Network is a dynamic, expanding charity that supports the Free Schools movement by providing advice to groups wanting to set up independently-run, government-funded schools. We provide advice, capability-building and networking opportunities for these groups.

 

Interns are an invaluable part of our team and work across all areas undertaking a range of tasks and responsibilities. We rely on our interns to provide considerable advisory support, working with our advisers to directly support groups aiming to set up Free Schools. Our interns will also have the opportunity to gain experience in research, event management and database management.

 

Candidates must support the Free Schools programme, and be able to demonstrate the following:  

  • Enthusiasm – our interns must be passionate about education and able to thrive in this fast moving policy environment.
  • Impressive communication skills – our interns communicate with a great variety individuals and groups in person, over the phone and in writing.
  • Adaptability – our interns are asked to use their initiative, work across our teams and complete a wide variety of projects.
  • Excellent organisational skills – our interns need to be able to prioritise their workload and manage their time efficiently.
  • Attention to detail – our interns will need to complete both written and data-related tasks with precision, ensuring accuracy and coherence across all of their work.
  • Professionalism – our interns need to be able to represent NSN in a professional and appropriate manner in any situation.

 

We are looking for outstanding candidates to take on this exciting and varied role. It presents the opportunity to support the implementation of this flagship government policy, and to engage with groups proposing innovative approaches to the improvement of English education.

Governance and Financial Specialist Advisers with the New Schools Network

 

New Schools Network is a dynamic, expanding charity that supports the Free Schools movement by providing help to groups wanting to set up independently-run, government-funded schools. We provide advice, capability-building and networking opportunities for these groups.

Successful Specialist candidates will work with our team of full-time in-house Advisers to deliver outstanding support to groups applying to set up Free Schools.  We are particularly interested in applications from those with considerable experience in school finance/operations and school governance.

In order to deliver the standard of support that we expect, candidates will have:

  • Expertise in some of the following: leadership, governance, staff recruitment, financial management and/or operational oversight in a Good or Outstanding setting;
  • Outstanding communication skills - written, over the phone, and in person; and

 

  • A passion for raising educational standards.

 

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to support NSN by:

  • Meeting directly with proposer groups to help them to develop their application and their plans for their school;

 

  • Providing high-quality written feedback on advanced drafts of groups’ operational and financial plans;

 

  • Supporting the organisation and facilitating the delivery of training and networking events; and

 

  • Developing written guidance materials.

Particular expertise or experience in any of the following will be a strong advantage:

  • Academy governance; or

 

  • Academy conversion.

Education Specialist Advisers with the New Schools Network

New Schools Network is a dynamic, expanding charity that supports the Free Schools movement by providing help to groups wanting to set up independently-run, government-funded schools. We provide advice, capability-building and networking opportunities for these groups.

Successful candidates will work with our team of full-time in-house Advisers to deliver outstanding support to groups applying to set up Free Schools.  We are particularly interested in applications from those with considerable experience in: 16-19 stand-alone provision, Special school education (particularly ASD provision).

In order to deliver the standard of support that we expect, candidates will have:

  • Experience of school leadership in a Good or Outstanding setting;

 

  • Expertise in some of the following: curriculum design, developing strategies for meeting the needs of all pupils, designing and/or implementing systems to monitor pupil progress, developing a strong school vision and developing staffing structures;

 

  • Outstanding communication skills - written, over the phone, and in person; and

 

  • A passion for raising educational standards.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to support NSN by:

  • Meeting directly with proposer groups to help them to develop their application and their plans for their school;

 

  • Providing high-quality written feedback on advanced drafts of groups’ educational plans;

 

  • Supporting the organisation and facilitating the delivery of training and networking events; and

 

  • Developing written guidance materials.

Particular expertise or experience in any of the following will be a strong advantage:

  • School improvement;

 

  • Establishing a new school or other start-up; or

 

  • Innovative educational practice.
